Week 4

Sunday 22nd December.
In the morning I walked, had coffee and read at Chinese.
Afternoon N and I walked on to the marina, up the steps and along the top to the park above the marina.

Monday 23rd December.
We went, in the car, to El Portet the neighbouring beach a couple of kms from town. For those fitter than us it is a nice walk but a step too far for us. A beautiful day and the sea was calm. There was a lot of decaying Neptune grasshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posidonia_oceanica lying on the beach and workmen were busy clearing it up.
In the afternoon I went to play a Canasta. Anne and I played with Alsa and Yvonne and had three good games and a really good laugh. Alsa and I won but it was a very close result.

Tuesday 24th December
A beautiful warm day, a lot of people about. I bought a pair of jeans at Jakarta, a really nice shop that has lots of nice clothes and accessories. Coffee at the gelateria. The young Ecuadorean waiter from 2 years ago is still there. A lovely lad who works very hard and is always pleasant.

Wednesday 25th December
A low very low key but pleasant Christmas Day, like most days here, really!!
I went off for a walk and (whilst talking to the ducks!!) bumped into a couple from Canasta. Many English people go to the beach at Portet taking drinks and nibbles to share on the beach. We had intended going but as the parking is so limited we decided against it. The couple I met who had been previous years, had given it a miss for the same reason. I had a coffee at the Dutch cafe before coming back for Nigel. We went down to the gelateria and got a table in the shade. Relaxing with a Campari and soda and watching the world go by was most enjoyable.!
Back home I had a long chat with friend who is spending the Christmas period in Singapore before making our Christmas meal. A very low key meal! Roast chicken, roast potatoes and veg along with pigs in blankets, bought from Iceland, Paxo stuffing and Bisto gravy. Easiest Christmas meal I have ever cooked.

Thursday 26th December.
Walk in the morning.
Anne and Nigel came late pm for apéros.
After they left N and I went for a walk.

Friday 27th December.
N and I went to market. N came back home with the shopping and I walked round all the stalls and bought a pair of short trousers for when it gets warmer. At the moment it’s very warm in the sun but quite cool in the shade. Although many people, not the locals!, are walking round in shorts and T shirts they must feel chilly when they go in the shade.
Then I went to pick up my new phone which has finally arrived. I had it delivered to the computer shop which is on the way to Benitachell. Spent most of the afternoon playing with it, it’s a google pixel 3a, purchased as it has a very good camera. Very happy with it😃
Late pm I walked on to Fishy Fishy and bought battered haddock and mushy peas for tea.

Saturday 28th December
Conversation and coffee am.
Walked down to sea and met N.
Late pm I went for a walk, went to gelateria and had a Campari, this could become a habit, and N joined me. On the way back N started to chatting to English guy on bike. He didn’t look like the normal “travelling cyclist” although the bike was loaded up with his belongings. I left them to chat and came back home. N came back after a while and said he was going for a drink with him and should he ask him if he wanted to stay the night. I said no problem, see how it goes. Eventually after an hour or more an came back alone. Peter, the cyclist, had downed 4 large glasses of white wine and was becoming rather noisy so N made his escape. He apparently lives and works in Majorca, has his own business and is very well heeled. Not sure why he is wandering around Spain on a bike in the winter!
