Week 5

Sunday 29th December
Walk in the morning. Nice and sunny and a lot of people about.
Went out for late lunch at el Pescador by the marina. Warm enough to eat outside in the shade.
Coffee and brandy afterwards at the gelateria.

Monday 30th December.
Cloudy cool. Walk in the morning.
Canasta pm. Another good afternoon playing with the same two ladies, Alisa and Yvonne.
Anne brought me my Christmas present from Steve that had been delivered to their place. A Fitbit!!!

Tuesday 31st December.
Went up to the tennis club to have coffee with Lynn and pay for shopping trip to Murcia next week. Walk.
I’m hoping that having the Fitbit will encourage me to keep up the walking that I have been doing since we arrived here. I reckon I’m walking an hour a day. It’s easy here as it’s mostly on the flat and if I feel the need I can always sit down awhile.
Cloudy again
Shoppping pm at Mercadona.
Managed to stay awake to see in the new year. Walked down to the sea just before midnight. The restaurants were full and quite a few people, lots of families, were waiting by the castle to see the fireworks at midnight. We thought it was a pretty spectacular display for a small town, we could also see fireworks further up the coast and even further in Calpe. A cold but clear night. It was remarkable that there was no rowdiness just a lot of people enjoying themselves.

Wednesday 1st January.
Nice sunny day. Went for walk and had a coffee and read at the Chinese cafe. Went over the road to look at the sea and John tapped me on the shoulder. He and Cheryl were also sitting at the Chinese so I went and joined them. After a while Nigel strolled by so the 4 of us sat there, with glasses of cava, and chatted for an hour or more.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The days are beginning to take on a routine, a pleasant routine I hasten to add. Walking twice a day. Sometimes meeting up with N for a coffee or a drink at the gelateria or the Chinese. Some time in the afternoon spent sitting on the balcony and reading. The Chinese is a very popular restaurant/cafe for people to meet up as it is just over the road from the sea with a large terrace and comfy chairs.
Friday is market day and it is so tempting to buy too many fruit and veg. I think we are learning not to do so but the mandarins are irresistible! So cheap, €1 a kilo and of course so fresh. It’s also a very good place for people watching! This week walking round the market as well as my two usual walks gained me my first 10,000 steps!
Saturday was conversation morning again, a few more there this week.
