Week 7.

Sunday 12th January.
The weekend fiesta of San Antoni continued this morning with a parade and blessing of animals. The procession started at the castle and there was a large crowd in attendance to watch the parade assemble. There were several horse/pony drawn small covered wagons, 5 mounted horses and 1 being led all followed by 2 oxen. Of the riders three were female and wearing helmets, 2 male riders were bareheaded! The parade was led by the usual band of drummers, a sound that we have come to know well during all the festivities!
Eventually they set off and went up the main avenue and around to the small street know as Doctor Catalayud  where they came to a halt outside the church where the blessing took place.

Monday 13th January.
Canasta day again. Now that the festive season is over there were 16 members playing. Busiest it’s been for quite some time.
Film show in the evening. A double event day for me! The film shown was Yesterday. Light hearted but enjoyable. Afterwards we went to the Chinese for supper.
Tuesday 14th January.
Scrabble at 1pm for both of us at the el Martello bar. A couple of new people there which is good as it isn’t a very well subscribed group at the moment. I played one game with Sheran, Paulette and Maggie. Maggie and Paulette have been here for many years and it’s very interesting to hear them tell tales of what Moraira was like more than20 years ago. After one game we stopped for a light lunch and I had my favourite tapas of hot garlic prawns cooked in olive oil ! Another couple of games afterwards before walking back home.
Wednesday 15th January.
Another double event day for me!
First event was lunch with the “chicas que comen”, ladies lunch. They meet every month at a different restaurant in the area. Today’s lunch was at d’gusta in the town just down the road from home. We sat at tables outside first and were served with a glass of cava and everyone drew a colour out of a hat to decide which table they were seated on. A good idea as over time one gets to know more people. Not sure how many were there, probably about 40 I would think. I sat next to Daisy from Oldham who was great company even though a Lancastrian!! Violet was another lady on the table and she had been here for very many years,  now widowed and living in an apartment in town. Jan who i know from conversation mornings and Susie made up the others on our table. The food was good and the wine and conversation flowed.
Back home to recover, have a little snooze and get ready for the evening’s event which was a quiz in aid of Akira the dog rescue charity. It was held at el Martello bar so just a short walk up the road for us. It was very crowded and unfortunately the other 3 people on our table didn’t show so it was just the 2 of us to answer the questions. We did OK on general knowledge, geography and one other set but failed miserably on music and something else that escapes my memory (as did many of the correct answers!). Supper was a help yourself buffet. We did ok but unfortunately the people who were last in the queue got nothing. Anyway I’m pleased to say that we won a prize, the booby prize, but it was emphasised that we had made a noble effort there just being the 2 of us! We struck “lucky” in the raffle despite it being the last ticket drawn. The remaining prize was a set of tea light holders, quite pretty but we don’t need more “stuff”! The bottle of gin which was the preceding prize would have been more acceptable. The tea lights will go back for the next raffle!
An enjoyable evening on the whole but due to the noise and overcrowding we probably won’t repeat the outing.
Thursday 15th January
Morning walk and recovering from the eventful few days we have had.
In the afternoon we drove up to Benimiet to suss out the property that some friends are renting next month. It looks very nice and has stunning views down to the town and beyond. Quite an interesting drive up there, up being the operative word, views come at a price! Still with a car it’s only a 5 minute down to town so a good place to stay. After that we went and did our weekly shop at Mercadona. I have to say that I am always surprised, pleasantly surprised that is, when it comes to paying as it is so much cheaper here than at home.
Friday 16th January.
Market day. We went in together and as we were wandering around bumped into John and Cheryl who we chatted with then arranged to meet a bit later at the Chinese cafe. We did our fruit and veg purchases then N went back home with them and I wandered around the rest of the market before going to meet up with John and Cheryl. I had a coffee and chat with them and about 1pm I had to leave as I had appointment at clinic at 1.30. As we were leaving Nigel was just arriving, too late, so he walked back with me. Quick turnaround and off to the clinic. I had to have my 6 monthly injection , of calcium, and had appointment with nurse there to do it. In and out very quickly and back home for a late lunch.
Saturday 17th January.
A bit of a mix up at conversation this morning. Several of us turned up at our usual meeting place to find it was closed. A quick confab and we decided to go up the road to the bar relax and left a note for any late comers. In the end there were 16 of us which is the biggest turnout for a while. Not a lot of room at the Relax so we were split up on several different tables. Very noisy, far too difficult to hear in English or in Spanish. Someone came in and said that the other bar was now open so a few of us decided to decamp and go down there. A good decision, so much quieter.
Walk round town afterwards.
Bad weather is forecast starting tomorrow, a red alert, and it was starting to get windy.

Ruminating 😄

Cleaning up at the rear of the procession..
