Well there doesn’t seem to be a lot of point doing a daily post as most days are the same now.
Today is Thursday and we are on day 5 of isolation due to the Coronavirus. Spain has decreed that we must stay indoors apart from brief trips for groceries, pharmacy or hospital. Dogs can be walked but only briefly. People may only go out singly and couples have already been fined for shopping together.
On Sunday we had a young man from 2 floors up, accompanied by his dog, ring the bell and ask if we needed any shopping doing the next day. We had plenty of supplies so I thanked him and declined but he said to let them know if we needed anything. Apparently some people have been doing this and then disappearing with the shopping money. Sure this young man was OK though as I recognised the dog and had seen it going in and out of the building with an older man. I think it is his mother who I have chatted to in the lift.
We shopped last Friday and may need to get a few things tomorrow. I shall walk over to Pépé’s the small supermarket close by and get what we need.
We are still planning to return home at the end of the month so need to make sure that food in the fridge and freezer is used up.
If there are any problems re returning home I have ascertained that we can continue to rent here.
The one thing that I am missing is walking so yesterday I went up on the roof and walked for half an hour, 2.8 kms. I felt much better for it but my legs ached quite a bit. Must continue. Walked up there again this morning when I went up to hang the washing out.
So the days pass by and we seem to have established a routine. Nigel gets short walks to the rubbish bins and on the roof. We have just completed a Wasjig jigsaw and will start another one shortly. N had never watched Last Tango in Halifax so we have been watching an episode at night so we can then catch up with the latest series. I have seen it previously but am very happy to watch it again. Such a good programme.
It seems that the population of Moraira town is obeying the rules, we see very few people on the street, most of them carrying shopping bags, rubbish bags or walking dogs. There is a taxi rank just up the road, they don’t seem to be doing a lot of business. Just 2 or 3 cars there most of the time. It must be so boring for them!
So, big event, Friday afternoon I went out into the big wide world. Prior to leaving I inhaled some Vicks First Defence hoping that may be some benefit. A 2 minute walk to Pépés only seeing 2 other people in the distance. As I entered the shop a masked security man was mumbling at me and I finally understood him to be saying “guantes (gloves) and looked behind me to see a pile of disposable gloves. Not many people in the shop and we were all keeping our distance from each other. There didn’t appear to be any shortages and there was no sign of people buying to stockpile.I piled my purchases into my shopping bag, picked up 2 litres of milk and paid for it all. I had taken my shopping trolley so put everything into that and was back home about 15/20 minutes after I had left. Preferable to the crowds and panic buying that has apparently been going on in the UK.
When I got back I realised that despite taking a list with me I had forgotten to get any potatoes. I had to make a quick trip back on Saturday morning for them, potatoes are one of the necessities of life as far as I am concerned.
I did see the security guard look at me as if he recognised me but he didn’t say anything. We have been told to try and make as few shopping trips as possible and not to use them as an excuse for going out.
I’ve been continuing walking on the roof, 2x15 minute walks a day, one am and one pm. I take my phone with me and have the radio playing through my headphones. If the music is particularly jolly I tend to incorporate a bit of dancing into the walk.
We’ve started another jigsaw, it’s quite a difficult one and not easy to get going.
We have noticed how quickly we have become used to this incarceration, it is beginning to seem normal!
Of course the internet is a great boom in these times and will be for everyone I’m sure. I’m able to speak, see friends and family in the UK and NZ as well as keep up with events in the rest of the world and of course play Scrabbles with several friends, such a good way of keeping in touch.
A few photos of views from the roof! You will notice the skies were grey, we haven’t had a lot of sun this week and have had quite a lot of rain. Sunshine today though.🌞
